1984-2015 ΓεΩΡγιος Graffiti writer-artist , 31 stillwriting t.e.s. crew. Born in Athens and later raised in the beautiful town of Trikala, George Papageorgiou has been actively involved in street art culture since 1984, discovering little by little the “magic potential” of spray and graffiti. Mainly influenced by the old school of New York graffiti creators, which came to its end around 1981, he is considered to be one of the first artists of the specific genre in our country. During the 80’s he experimented with spray painting of large surfaces, mostly walls. While being a student at the Department of Early School Education of the University of Thessaly in Volos, he was the artist that the then Mayor Mr. Pitsioris Dimitrios entrusted with the implementation of large- dimension graffitis- spray murals on external walls of school complexes situated at the entrance, exit and centre of the city. Moreover, in 1997 he organised the first graffiti festival in Thessaly with participants from all over Greece. He himself participated with the group “t.e.s. crew” in the most important graffiti festivals “Meeting of Styles” and “Hall of Fame” in Athens and Thessaloniki, the latter being considered even to this day the Greek metropolis of graffiti art. In 2000, George Papageorgiou’s signature (tag) “ΓεΩΡγιος” was sprayed on a canvas and placed in the North Pole by the world-wide known Greek climber from the Municipality of Agria, Volos, Nikolaos Magitsis while taking part in an international expedition. Being a resident in Patra for the last four years and displaying a thirty-one-year artistic activity, George Papageorgiou welcomes us on March 20, 2015 at the Art Gallery “Palissandros” (8, Ermou str.) in Patra to a graffiti exhibition dedicated to the old school of graffiti writters “Old school, you are not forgotten”. His aim is not so much to impress us with his works of art, but rather to remind us of the old, yet so vivid and still alive graffiti school, signing his works as “31stillwriting” from now on…
